Greetings from the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov on the occasion of Shipbuilders’ Day

Dear colleagues!

From the bottom of my heart, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and from me personally, I would like to congratulate you on the occasion of your professional holiday, the Shipbuilders’ Day!

A major manufacturing industry, shipbuilding rightfully occupies a leading place in the Russian Federation’s defense industrial complex. St. Petersburg, Arkhangelsk and the River Amur region are all inextricably linked with the history of our fleet and navy. Today they remain important hubs for marine science and manufacturing. We are proud of the traditions of our outstanding shipbuilders and we are building upon their legacy. More than 200,000 workers are employed in shipbuilding and related industries.

Thanks to successful and coordinated efforts of the entire industry as part of government defense orders, a number of strategic vessels and ships have been commissioned and important projects have been launched and are underway, such as the establishment of the Zvezda shipbuilding complex in Russia’s Far East, building of the Project 22220 Siberia nuclear-powered icebreakers, development of our fishing and passenger fleets, mastering of off-shore technology, and expansion of our presence in the Arctic. Russian shipyards built 858 vessels and other marine equipment units between 2010 and 2017, with 156 more ships under construction today. Output of our shipbuilding enterprises has been rising steadily over the past six years, with 2017 growth registering at 185.2% from 2012.

I am confident that shipbuilders’ commitment to your mission, dedication and energy will continue to serve Russia’s strategic interests and strengthen our defense and economic might.

On this day, I would like to wish all workers in the industry, its R&D centers, scientific and academic institutions new victories, health, well-being and success in all of your endeavors!
